WRIS students are participating in the New York Boulders Reading Challenge, a fun, motivating program sponsored by the New York Boulders baseball team that encourages students to build strong, consistent reading habits at home.
The challenge runs from February 23, 2026 through March 15, 2026. Students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes per day, as even small amounts of daily reading help strengthen comprehension, stamina, and confidence over time.
How it works
Students will receive a reading log to track the number of minutes they read at home each evening and on weekends. Families will sign the log weekly, and teachers will collect each week’s slip on Monday mornings. After the three-week challenge, WRIS will submit totals to the New York Boulders so prizes and certificates can be distributed.
Reading Milestones and Prizes
Students can earn rewards based on total minutes read:
Single (under 400 minutes): Participation certificate
Double (400+ minutes): Certificate + 2 tickets to a designated Boulders game
Triple (800+ minutes): Certificate + 4 tickets to a designated Boulders game
Home Run (1300+ minutes): Certificate + 4 tickets, plus a special on-field experience and T-shirt
Top Reader: Recognition at a Boulders game and a player-autographed baseball
Ticket Redemption Dates
Prize tickets can be redeemed on May 13, May 14, or May 16, 2026 (May 16 is limited to select schools).
We’re excited to partner with the New York Boulders to help students grow as readers and make reading a positive, daily habit.
