    Dear Parents and Guardians:

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I welcome you and your child to the 2021-2022 school year ─ a year of change, possibilities, and potential!  These past two school years have been unprecedented and unpredictable, and our strength as a school community has helped us navigate through many of those challenges and obstacles.

I am proud to announce the district’s plans of returning to a full-day in-person schedule inclusive of lunch, recess, and special area classes.  We are eager to provide our students with a more typical and robust educational environment and learning experience while diligently incorporating safety measures, researching the latest state and federal guidelines and recommendations, and making the most accurate and responsible decisions possible as we progress through the year.

I know that the return to school can produce a varying range of emotions in children, some experiencing excitement with others presenting anxiety.  Please understand that this is not unusual, especially after these past two school years, and be assured that our staff is fully committed to supporting our students’ social and emotional well-being.  Keep in mind that it is not only our Pre-K and Kindergarteners who will be taking their first steps through the Doyle doors this year, but many of our other students whose primary educational experience have led them to believe that homeroom takes place in their bedrooms, recess is in their backyards, lunch is in the kitchens (with their families as the cafeteria workers), and specials are in the living room.  Therefore, students, staff, and families will all be taking these first steps back to Doyle together and looking to the future, which is why the theme of the 21-22 school year will be “Back to the Future.”

In taking these steps, it is vital to recognize that education is a partnership between all parties.  Research shows that positive and supportive relationships between home and school result in improved educational outcomes for students.  We are extremely fortunate to have a very generous and involved Parent Teacher Association, which we kindly encourage you to join.  The PTA works closely with Administration to provide culturally rich activities, social events, and enhance students’ educational experience, and being a member of this organization is worthwhile in supporting your child’s school community.  Registration should be completed online with information regarding membership being posted on our website in the next couple of weeks.

Because of the dire global situation we have found ourselves in over the last year and a half, please note that some past practices at Doyle may change in our journey “Back to the Future.”  Please be sure to regularly access the Parent Portal on Realtime as well as visit our school website for important and the most updated information throughout the school year.  This year, Back to School Night will take place on Thursday, September 23rd from 7-9 P.M.  Details regarding this event will be posted online in the upcoming weeks.  Lunch will also be available at no cost to all students.  In addition, the School District and Activities Calendars can also be accessed on our school district website. It is vital that you adhere to the school calendar when planning any vacations so that your child(ren) will remain in attendance on the dates that school is in session.  Please be informed that absences due to vacations are unexcused and disrupt the continuity of the instructional program for your child(ren).

Be advised that the first day of school, Thursday, September 9th, is a half day, starting at 8 A.M. and dismissing at 12:28 P.M.  Friday, September 10th is a regular session day (full day), beginning at 8 A.M. and ending at 2:50 P.M.  To ensure our students arrive at school safely, please remain cognizant of the traffic patterns around the school block in the morning when dropping off.  Please do not park in the “Drop-off” zones and make sure your child is on the sidewalk before pulling away from the curb.  Please note that parents/school visitors may not access the two staff parking lots in the front of the school building.  Street parking is available to all visitors.  Information regarding drop-off and dismissal assignments for each level is posted on the website.

In addition, the Wood-Ridge School District will sponsor a before-school child care program for Wood-Ridge Public School students in Pre K-4 (must be 4 years old and potty trained) through sixth grade at the Doyle and Intermediate Schools.  The program for all students begins on Friday, September 10th, and will run through the last day of school in June, running from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. with the option of 7:30 A.M. to 8:00 A.M..  Please be advised that you must physically sign your child(ren) into the program each day and that there is a fee for participation.  You may find more information regarding the before and after care programs on the Doyle School webpage.

I look forward to all that this new school year brings to our school community, and am honored to lead Doyle School “Back to the Future,” ensuring our students are receiving a dynamic and supportive educational experience.  Please know that I am always available to you regarding any issues that concern your child.

Enjoy the remainder of the summer!
