Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Catherine Bethon
I'm beyond thrilled to be teaching Visual Arts in Wood-Ridge JR/SR High School. I attained a Masters of Teaching Art Education and Certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities. My undergraduate study was in Theater Arts where I had the opportunity to spend a semester working for Walt Disney World Resorts. I live in Wood-Ridge with my husband and two boys where we enjoy walking to the parks, playing with our neighbors, and having family pizza nights. I look forward to working with the students, staff, and their families!
Art is not a gift from birth but rather a skill that can be taught even late into your adulthood. My role as an art educator is to create a learning environment that addresses needs of a diverse population and provide students an atmosphere in which creative thinking is encouraged and developed. People are different, students learn differently and all have different personal experiences, abilities and centers of perception. My goal is to ensure a classroom that addresses the needs of its learners which is tolerant of their identity as human beings and is best achieved by the individual effort of the teacher as well as the student. Finding and making personal connections with a diverse population of learners is something I develop through collaboration with students, educators, community, as well as my own personal reflection and professional development.
I use a variety of methods and resources to engage student learning. In addition to face-to-face instruction, class demonstrations, discussions and critiques, another method of study includes online components - often delivered through Google Classroom.
