Welcome to my website!
The mission of the Visual, Performing, Culinary & Literary Arts at Wood-Ridge High School is to create a learning environment that fosters excellence in the visual, performing, culinary and literary arts. Through both traditional practices and contemporary approaches, WRJr/Sr HS will prepare its students to create, examine, perform, research, and teach the complexities of the arts. The faculty, engaged in scholarship and service to set an example for our students, are committed to collaboration, diversity, and interdisciplinary exchanges needed for continued growth of the high school and the community beyond our school.
I developed a love of music and started playing piano and flute when I was ten. My parents did not play any instrument or sing professionally, but they always took my sisters and me to shows, plays, the ballet, the symphony, museums and art world. My grandfather was a professional musician who played flute and piccolo. He and his brothers playing in community bands during World War 1. I still have his instruments.
I always played flute in school bands - all through high school.
After graduating college I worked for an "Artist in the Schools" project where I taught music. I also gave lots of private lessons on flute, clarinet, saxophone. I also performed regularly with a trio of musicians all over New York City. We played Renaissance music on modern instruments: flute, guitar, tuba. We worked for New York Young Audiences. We also provided music in many restaurants, and performed at weddings and special events.
Currently, when I am not teaching at Wood-Ridge, I am a member of "Speed The Plough." SPEED THE PLOUGH is a multi-generational band of 6 members playing
original music variously described as chamber pop, psychedelic folk,
indie, and whatnot. Go to www.speedtheplough.com for more information.
