Dr. Oscar Vazquez

Dr. Oscar Vazquez is the school physician for Wood-Ridge High School, having joined the staff in
2018. Dr. Vazquez is a member of the Summit Health Orthopedic Team. He has offices in the
northern New Jersey towns of Hackensack, Glenridge, and Emerson. He is the Chief of Orthopedic
Surgery at Hackensack Meridian Medical Center at Mountainside. Dr. Vazquez is an Assistant
Professor at the Rutgers Medical School and at the Hackensack University School of Medicine and
is a board member of the New Jersey Orthopedic Society.

Dr. Vazquez is the author of numerous research studies and papers detailing the treatment of a
variety of sports injuries, and is board-certified in orthopedics with fellowship training in Orthopedic
Sports Medicine. He has particular proficiency in advanced arthroscopic procedures, including the
shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. In addition to fellowship training in orthopedic sports medicine, he
also has specific subspecialization in shoulder and elbow surgery, including trauma, ligament
reconstruction, and arthroplasty, including revision. He also has training in the latest techniques of
hip preservation using arthroscopic techniques such as labral repair and impingement correction
surgery. 


A Newark New Jersey native, Dr. Vazquez attended Queen of Peach High School of North Arlington,
where he was the captain of the boys tennis team. He completed his undergraduate education at
Cornell University, earning a B.A. in neurobiology and behavior.

Dr. Vazquez was awarded his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2003. For the next five years,
he was a resident at New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases. Upon completing his
residency, Dr. Vazquez received specialty training in sports medicine and shoulder & elbow surgery
as a fellow at the University of Southern California (USC), studying under Dr. James Tibone and Dr.
John Itamura. He also received specialized training in hip arthroscopy under Dr. Jason Snibbe. As
assistant team physician for USC, he worked with athletes in a wide range of endeavors from
football to tennis and golf addressing their unique needs and expectations. 

In addition to Wood-Ridge High School, Dr. Vazquez is the Chief Medical Officer for the NJ/NY
Gotham FC, and the head team physician for St. Thomas Aquinas College, Felician University, and
Stevens Institute of Technology. He also serves as a ringside doctor for USA Boxing and Golden
Gloves.
